We really enjoyed our stay at Two Styx despite the less than ideal weather for the first afternoon and morning.
Both my mate John and I worked at the old DCA (Department of Civil Aviation), now Airservices Australia site at the top of Point Lookout in the late 1970’s for a couple of months so we are pretty well used to the type of weather one get at the tops of mountains.
Your Platypus Cottage is just like a home away from home with all the comforts one gets used to having at home. No complaints about the cottage at all.
We thought we would see more birds as the last couple of times we stayed there the birds were quite plentiful, but then again, that was in the summer months.
We has brief glimpses of three Superb Lyrebirds as they scurried across the tracks, but no chance of a photo.
No sign of any of the Olive Whistlers we saw last time near the bottom of the Wrights Lookout track, and no sign of any Flame Robins at all.
Lots of the tiny Brown Thornbills everywhere, and quite a few of the Superb Fairywrens around the cottage early in the mornings.
We did have trouble getting that wood to burn properly. We had a good fire going one night, but next morning two of the bigger pieces still had not burnt completely.
Thanks also Russ for the bottles of Jam and Chutney – a very nice touch.
I’ll send you a few bird photos after I have finished processing them.
