We had the best time and I always find it extremely hard to leave the place. Two Styx has much to offer as the facilities are well set up, and so obviously cared for. Our trip was nothing as planned, forcing Busy Bees to “STOP”! I forewarned my friend to prepare for extreme & unpredictable weather of Point Lookout, making hiring a cabin the sensible option over camping. But not even I was prepared for our experience that changed our hiking itinerary to explore the immense diversity of Ebor. After a spectacular sunrise, blue skies and sweltering sunburn one minute, it became a total white-out the next, as a low-level cloud system off the coast arrived, and stayed for the next 24 hours! View from the cabin? What view? Where’s the car gone? Drenched by the “cloud” (not like normal mist), chilled to the core, we found ourselves lighting a fire in the middle of summer! We loved it! We were deeply relaxed, enjoying the cabin facilities and human company without the distractions of reception & technology, laughing at what Mother Nature had just thrown at us! Two Styx is the perfect place to “reset”, go-with-the-flow, as everything you need is there. It’s not for everyone, but it is a nature lover’s paradise.
We saw the platypus in the dam that you mentioned, we counted 2, maybe 3, being very active and not bothered by us. The last time I saw platypus up there, they were in the streams at the back of the property, requiring patience and a stealthy approach to spot, taking many visits to spot a single one! I was taken back by the lack of ground water currently up there, and the impact it has had on the New England NP, waterways & flora, yet it was still green! Such a radical change to the previous years that I was frequenting the place. But it was fabulous to see the work and care you’ve put into the property. Job well done! I hope to be back very soon, as it holds a special place in my heart. Utterly love the place!
